Hertas
Alm is in Obernberg Valley and has been there for at least
500 years. Alm means CHALET. It is one of the first houses
that were in the valley and was used as a simple peasant
farm for hay barn and stables. Herta is a peasant woman who
provided us with cow milk, eggs and butter. In this way
it came up that she would be happy if someone took care of
this fine house.

Walls are of stone and the 4th wall is made out
of wood. The roof is about 100 qm and needs to be redone.
There is a built in room on which a sleeping
loft would be nice. It is next to a stream and close to walking
trails up to Obernberger Lake.

Our job will initially be to "waterproof" the roof. Probably,
we must renew the board, add paper, and then
add wooden panels in the traditional way. There will be an
expert from the valley on the spot showing
us. The wall needs some minor work. If there is time we could
build a chimny for a fireplace. Your part will
be simple and contribute to the whole. Working together physically
can be rewarding and fun. Work breaks and hungry mouths
will be filled with bathing in the mountain lake and with local
food. The effort will depend on the number of helpers and the
weather, among other things. But the idea is to also have hiking
and days of rest. The main objective is to waterproof the roof
again.

The Mayor, the the land owner next to Hertas Chalet and Herta are
postitive towards the project. As the Chalet is located in a nature
reserve and its wellbeing is of general interest, EU contribution
to the roof material has been granted.
